FAQs

How long does it take to charge electric trucks used for work and utility routes?

Work and utility trucks usually take 6-12 hours to charge with standard level 2 charging. It takes about 1-6 hours with upgraded level 3 charging, depending on the vehicle. We can help you model different charging levels and infrastructures, and compare the tradeoffs.

How accessible are charging stations for electric work trucks?

EV charging stations for commercial use are limited but gaining momentum. Since the average service radius is well within the vehicle’s range, you likely don’t need to charge up during the workday. Many organizations with work and utility use cases get by with overnight charging and no major upgrades, but installing charging stations is an option, too. Reach out to get more info about our flexible charging solutions.

How do electric truck costs compare to diesel truck costs?

To compare the cost of diesel or internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles with zero-emissions vehicles, compare the total cost of ownership (TCO). This includes the upfront vehicle cost, the value of the asset over time, the cost of fuel and the cost to maintain the parts and pieces of an engine. Get in touch if you’re interested in a TCO analysis for your business.

Note: McKinsey Group estimates that the total cost of ownership will reach parity by 2025 for lightweight commercial vehicles.

What are the available incentives for electric work and utility vehicles?

There are grants and incentives available at the federal, state and local levels— and new ones become available frequently. Federally, there’s the Commercial Clean Vehicle Credit, and local utilities offer fleet electrification incentives, too. See examples at Portland General Electric, Pacific Power or Puget Sound Energy. Additional opportunities are available to organizations that do business in ports or those that have diverse business certifications.

Range Truck Group monitors these opportunities so that you can get the best deal when purchasing or leasing a zero-emissions truck. Reach out to learn more.
